PDO Mastic/Mastiha Chios
In the North East Aegean Sea, in the island of Chios, Mastic, a unique product, is being collected since ancient years, that gave the island the name “Myrovolos”. Mastic is a natural resin that comes from an evergreen tree which is called Schinos, belongs to the family of Pistachia. It is a natural, aromatic resin in drop shape that accumulates on the ground by the mastic producers. It is produced exclusively in the south Chios Island, due to the unique soil and climate conditions of the region and it is used in multiple ways, such as culinar and cosmetics.
